A Strategic Bridge Between Gabonese Businesses and the UK Market

How a structured workshop and matchmaking programme in Libreville opened doors for Gabonese SMEs seeking UK partners.

Context

In a climate of economic openness and strengthened Gabon–UK relations, Wataalam Ltd positioned itself as a key strategic partner supporting Gabonese businesses in their international expansion. Through targeted initiatives, Wataalam works to facilitate access for Gabonese SMEs to the UK market by addressing cultural, commercial and structural barriers.

Challenges

  • Limited understanding of UK business culture and commercial practices.
  • Difficulty accessing international business networks.
  • Lack of strategic support in international negotiation and contract structuring.

Our Approach

Wataalam implemented a structured approach built around two complementary pillars:

1. Strengthening Local Capacities

Wataalam organised a professional workshop in Libreville under the theme “How to Successfully Secure a Contract with a UK Company.” The workshop enabled Gabonese entrepreneurs to understand the UK business environment, develop cross-cultural communication skills, and improve their international negotiation capabilities. During the event Wataalam also introduced the guide “Doing Business in Gabon”.

2. Access to the UK Market

  • Facilitated business matchmaking between Gabonese companies and UK partners.
  • Supported companies in their strategic positioning within the UK market.
  • Leveraged the opportunities created by Gabon’s Commonwealth membership.

Impact & Key Takeaways

  • Strengthened the readiness and competitiveness of Gabonese businesses for international markets.
  • Increased their visibility among UK partners.
  • Reinforced Wataalam’s role as a sustainable economic bridge between Gabon and the UK.
  • Successful international expansion requires strong understanding of market dynamics and business cultures.
  • Strategic support is a critical growth lever for African SMEs.
